Baby Skin: Caution
The skin's barrier properties are located almost entirely in the superficial layer of the epidermis. The drying out and thickening of this layer are typical of the first days of extrauterine life and make the skin an effective barrier.
The use of topical substances makes the skin more likely to absorb harmful substances, therefore baby toiletries should be avoided during the first weeks of life. Diplomate, vol3#2
